Fail-safety first and foremost

In an interview with the managing directors

13 and 9 years ago, respectively, the management of STEBATEC passed to both of you. Since then, the size of the company has more than tripled. Was that necessary?

Kilian Hesse: At that time, we were in a market that allowed practically no innovation. At the same time, however, there was great potential for improving water quality. In order to fill the technology gaps, we needed a development force that could only be achieved with the right size of company.
Heinrich Hesse: …and of course a nationwide presence to be able to realize the projects and provide the service. We wanted to develop our products with the best people and use the best people for our projects. We were able to win them over.

Only a successful company can grow. Why does that apply to STEBATEC?

Kilian Hesse: Finding the balance between innovation and consistency is certainly relevant. The critical public infrastructure that we automate requires uninterrupted availability, reliability and security. In my view, a large part of our success is based on the fact that safety and reliability are absolutely paramount, and yet we have remained innovative.
Heinrich Hesse: Our customers, who test new developments and help us improve, are also very important. Being able to provide references is ultimately the basis on which a product and thus innovation can assert itself in the market. Continuity also seems to me to be an essential pillar. The fact that we have practically no employee turnover protects our knowledge.

The broad field of activity of STEBATEC requires versatile Innovative strength. Where does the company get that power?

Kilian Hesse: Definitely from the team spirit. Our way of leading offers a lot of freedom. A modern environment, flat hierarchies, respect and Humanity is the basis of the many ideas that contributed by the whole team.
Heinrich Hesse: Every day we are also motivated by exciting projects and the partnership-based cooperation with customers. It makes really big fun to create something new and to give full commitment when our work is accepted with such appreciation.
