Several hamlet on the territory of the municipalities of Burgdorf and Kirchberg had no link-up to the central sewer system. To improve this unsatisfactory situation, the intention was to collect the residential wastewater from the different hamlets in pump wells and then dispose of it into the public sewer systems. On the basis of the available connections, totally six smaller pumping stations and one main pumping station were needed. The pumps were not to be controlled from a central point but were to start operation independently once a defined level was reached at the respective stations. A visual alarm (flashing light in the booth) was to signal pump failure or a defective pump. In addition, for five of the pumpingstations, an SMS was also to be generated and sent by the respective control.
