Properties

How a hydroelectric power station works

Hydropower stations use the energy contained in water to generate electricity. The available head and the volume of water are particularly crucial factors in this process.

The water flows through a turbine, setting it in motion. The mechanical energy generated is converted into electrical energy by a generator. The water then continues on to its intended process or cycle.
