A visit to the Wengen Waterworks Cooperative

Automated drinking water supply at the foot of Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau

Drinking water supply at the cutting edge of technology

STEBATEC Trinkwasser AG supported the Wengen Waterworks Cooperative with its many years of expertise in complex requirements, from planning and electrical engineering to on-site implementation. The well master Richard Gassmann is enthusiastic about the competent cooperation and the result: “The long-standing and trusting cooperation has been confirmed with the qualified automation of our water supply – STEBATEC Trinkwasser AG convinced with a smooth order processing”.

Highest demands on engineering, material and security of supply

The steep, alpine location of Wengen and its fantastic alpine panorama are unique but a complex environment for projects. The climatic conditions in this mountainous region pose challenges for the water supply, which is operated by the Wengen Waterworks Cooperative. Wengen’s population fluctuates greatly from season to season, up to 10,000 people in the high season, which does not make it any easier to provide the reliable drinking water that is required. The operator is also responsible for the fire-fighting water reserve and for supplying water for the snowmaking system on the Lauberhorn slope.

Customisable process control system from STEBATEC guarantees maximum efficiency and monitoring

With the new AQUAbella process control system from STEBATEC, the control of the entire water supply is simplified for the operator and can be personalised according to his ideas. In addition, the system is monitored by the integrated STEBalarm. In the event of irregularities, this alerts the well master. In the control centre in the village, the inflows and outflows are registered so that the billing can be done according to consumption. The fill levels and water quality can be called up in real time on the clear graphic display. This gives the operator and the municipality planning security.

Full automation of the controls in the structures and smart piping system

In the course of modernising the structures, we renewed the electrical engineering with the aim of achieving a complete level of automation. The control system is the heart of the plant and ensures efficient and reliable operation while conserving resources. With the new PCS and the well-tested electrical engineering, the well supervisor Flurin Rageth rarely has to physically go on site to intervene. This is especially important when there is a lot of snow and a high volume of tourists, and it protects the sensitive fauna and flora.

“The long-standing and trusting cooperation has been confirmed with the qualified automation of our water supply – STEBATEC Trinkwasser AG convinced with a smooth and high-quality order processing”.
